Men’s Basketball Set to Host First Game of 2020 on Saturday

The Lyon College men’s basketball team will play for the first time in the 2020 calendar year on Saturday

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men's basketball team is set to open up the New Year on Saturday when the Scots host No. 18 Central Baptist College in an American Midwest Conference matchup at 3 p.m. inside Becknell Gymnasium.

THE MATCHUP
LYON: 
The Scots enter Saturday's game at 9-4 (5-1 AMC) and currently sit one game back of CBC for first place in the conference standings. Lyon College head men's basketball coach Chad Tapp needs just one more victory to reach 100 wins for his career at Lyon. Hunter Daley has been the top player for the Scots through their first 13 games this season as he leads the team in scoring (12.1 points per game), rebounding (5.5 rebounds per game), assists (31) and steals (19). In conference play, Daley's scoring and rebounding averages are even better at 12.8 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game.

CBC: Central Baptist College enters Saturday's game at 9-2 overall and sits atop the conference standings at 6-0. Darius Williams is one of four players averaging double figures in scoring for the Mustangs this season. Williams is averaging 15.3 points per game and has done most of his damage from beyond the arc as he has made a team-high 30 three-pointers. Simon Okolue is second on the team at 12.9 points per game but is the top rebounder for CBC at 7.6 boards per game. Darius Polley is just behind Okolue at 12.8 points per game, while Tyrone Alston is the final Mustang averaging double figures at 11.9 points per game.

SERIES HISTORY
The Scots hold a 12-11 advantage in the all-time series against the Mustangs. Lyon and CBC split last year's two-game series with the home team winning each contest.

UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
Following Saturday's game against No. 18 CBC, the Scots will travel to Henderson, Tenn., to face Freed-Hardeman in another AMC matchup at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
