Scots Split at Oklahoma Wesleyan Tri-Match

Lyon Volleyball Goes 1-1 at Oklahoma Wesleyan Today

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The Lyon College volleyball team exchanged wins in their two matches at the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Tri-Match today. The Scots fell in a back-and-forth affair with Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the first contest, but Lyon salvaged the day with a dominant performance against Dallas Christian College, winning in three sets.

Lyon moves to 5-5 on the season. OKWU improves to 3-4, while DCC falls to 2-2.   

GAME FLOW 
Oklahoma Wesleyan University 
The Scots played their best volleyball of the match in the first set against the Lady Eagles. With Lyon holding an 11-10 advantage, the visitors from Batesville rattled off ten straight points to take the first set by a score of 25-13. 

The next three sets would not be as friendly to the Scots as OKWU took advantage of every opportunity. The Lady Eagles won six of the final eight points in the second stanza to knot the score at one set apiece.

With the third frame tied at 9-9, OKWU rattled off seven consecutive points to take a 16-9 lead. The Scots would battle back, but the Lady Eagles' advantage was too much as OKWU took the third set, 25-16.

The Lady Eagles and Scots exchanged leads in the early going of the fourth set. Lyon tied the score at 12-12 after one of Kendra Kelley's nine kills in the contest, assisted by Ellie Embry. The Lady Eagles used a 6-0 run to take a commanding lead, 18-12. OKWU would never relinquish that lead as they closed out the fourth set, 25-18, and match, 3-1.    

Dallas Christian College
The Scots battled back from a deficit for most of the first set. Lyon would trail early in the first stanza, but the Scots would find their rhythm and came back to win the set, 25-22. Lyon accumulated 15 kills in the first set.

The Scots followed up their 15 kills in the first stanza with 14 kills in the second frame. Lyon played aggressively and efficiently throughout the set as the visitors from Batesville extended their lead to two sets to none.

The Scots picked up right where they left in in the previous set as Lyon continued their dominating performance in the third frame. While Dallas Christian College would attempt to cut into the deficit, the Scots were up to the task as they completed the sweep by winning the final set by a score of 25-18.  

KEY STATISTICS
Oklahoma Wesleyan University 
Michayla Shanks etched a team-high 12 kills, while Alley Edwards added 10 kills in the match.
Kaitlyn Jackson and Ellie Embry accounted for 34 assists as Jackson tallied 18 and Embry registered 16.
- OKWU held the advantage in digs, 44-33, and edged the Scots in hitting percentage, .211-.205.  

Dallas Christian College
- Maggee Hobson recorded a team-high 11 kills, while Courtney Erby finished with 8.
- Lyon's setters were terrific as Kendra Davidson and Elizabeth Bairett totaled 14 and 9 assists, respectively.
- Elizabeth Baldridge tallied a team-best 13 digs, while Cassidy Garrett added 8 digs in the contest.
- The Scots accumulated 7 more kills and 5 more blocks than DCC.

WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
Lyon travels to Mississippi to compete in the Tougaloo College Tri-Match on Sept. 10. The Scots will battle Tougaloo College and Mississippi Valley State University. The match between Tougaloo and Lyon will begin at 3:00 p.m., while the Scots' second contest of the day will commence at 5:00 p.m.
