BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College women's soccer team used two early goals to cruise to a 3-1 victory over Principia College on Saturday.
Lyon is now 3-1 on the season, while Principia College falls to 1-2 on the year.
GAME FLOW
Lyon wasted no time in this one as the Scots executed a flawless counter-attack in the fourth minute.
Alexandria Denton delivered a great lead pass to
Hailey Gonzales up the right side of the pitch. Gonzales, then, crossed the ball into the box where she found
Sarah Evans at the far side post. Evans tapped the ball into the back of the net, giving the Scots a 1-0 lead. In the eighth minute,
Darby Blaylock sent a corner kick into the box. The Principia defender attempted to clear away the danger, but the ball fell right to
Alexandria Denton's foot. Denton took one touch and struck a shot from just outside the box that beat the Principia goalie, extending Lyon's lead to two.
The stellar offense of the Scots would continue in the second half. In the 59
th minute,
Sarah Evans crossed a ball into the box to
Tabetha Troxler. Troxler took a touch and beat the keeper, giving Lyon a 3-0 lead. Principia would score a late goal in the 89
th minute off the foot of Sophia Hathaway. The Scots would hold the Panthers there and earned a 3-1 victory over Principia on Saturday afternoon.
