Lyon Volleyball Travels to Missouri for Two Pivotal Contests

Lyon will continue AMC play in Missouri this weekend

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team will carry a 2-0 conference record into Missouri this weekend as the Scots will battle William Woods University and No. 3 Park University on Sept. 27-28. The match between WWU and Lyon will begin on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The next day, the Scots will square off against the Pirates at 1:00 p.m.

The Matchups
William Woods University: The Owls are 10-11 overall and 1-1 in conference play this season. WWU is the conference leader in blocks this year, tallying 150 blocks during the 2019 campaign. Jaclyn Zahn has recorded an AMC-best 72 blocks, while Kayton Coffee has notched 226 digs. Offensively, the trio of Nise Salima, Hannah Kuehl, and Kate Doerhoff have combined to accumulate 411 kills. Remie Johnson holds the team lead in assists with 433 assists on the season.  

No. 3 Park University: The defending NAIA champions are 11-2 on the season and hold a 1-0 record in conference action. Park has been terrific defensively as they hold the top spot in the AMC for blocks per set (2.4) and digs per set (21). The Pirates are led up front by the Meawad sisters. Nada Meawad has totaled a team-high 4.8 kills per set, while Noura Meawad has eteched a team-leading 125 kills. Jake Askren leads Park in the assists department with 313 assists. 

Lyon College: The Scots (10-5, 2-0 AMC) have been very efficient this season as they have recorded an AMC-best .239 hitting percentage. Michayla Shanks has amassed a team-leading 139 kills, while Kendra Kelley has tallied 110 kills through the first 15 matches of Lyon's 2019 campaign. Kaitlyn Jackson and Ellie Embry have shared the setter duties as Jackson has notched 244 assists and Embry has added 192. Michayla Shanks and Maggee Hobson lead the squad in aces as each Scot has etched 23 aces this season. Defensively, Maria Eleni Bampiri has accounted for a team-best 24 blocks, while Levia Taegtmeyer follows closely behind with 21 blocks.

William Woods University: Lyon is 0-7 all-time against the Owls. In their most recent meeting on Sept. 21, 2018, the Scots were edged by WWU (23-25, 28-30, 17-25).
 
No. 3 Park University: The Scots are winless against national powerhouse Park University.  In their most recent meeting on Nov. 6, 2018, Lyon fell to Park in straight sets (12-25, 12-25, 17-25).
