COLUMBIA, Mo. – Columbia used a corner kick goal to defeat the Lyon College men's soccer team by a score of 2-1 Saturday evening.
Lyon is now 5-4 overall, 1-1 in the AMC, while Columbia College moves to 7-0 overall, 1-0 in the AMC.
GAME FLOW
The match remained scoreless until midway through the first half. In the 21
st minute,
Rafael Santos played a nice ball to
Emanuel Santos. Emanuel, then, delivered a great pass to
Marcos Fernandez who struck a shot past Columbia's goalkeeper and into the back of the net, giving the Scots a 1-0 lead. Lyon would take the one-goal advantage as the halftime whistle sounded.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Scots for a majority of the second half. In the 80
th minute, however, the Cougars knotted the game at one off a penalty kick goal by Casey Barlett-Scott. Each side would have chances, but each team's defenses stayed organized and the score remained 1-1 after 90 minute of action.
In the first overtime, neither side could put together any good looks at goal, and the score remained knotted at one heading into the second overtime.
In the second overtime, it was Columbia who created the first opportunity. In the 102
nd minute, Ximo Gill delivered a corner kick that snuck into the back of the net, giving the Cougars a 2-1 victory over the Scots on Saturday.
