Lyon Volleyball Opens Conference Play Friday and Saturday

Lyon will battle two conference foes Friday and Saturday inside Becknell Gymnasium

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team, winners of the last four matches, have compiled an 8-5 record as they will begin conference play on Friday and Saturday inside Becknell Gymnasium. The first conference match of the season for the Scots will be a battle with St. Louis College of Pharmacy tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. The next day, Lyon will take on Lindenwood University-Belleville at 1:00 p.m.

The Matchups
St. Louis College of Pharmacy: The Eutectics are 7-5 this season after winning their last four matches. STLCOP's most recent victory came against Fontbonne University yesterday as the Eutectics swept the Griffins (25-11, 25-14, 25-13). STLCOP has been terrific defensively this year as the Eutectics are ranked eighth in the NAIA in digs per set at a clip of 19.6 digs per set. Offensively, Lauren Brown and Cassady Reno lead STLCOP as Brown has tallied 162 kills, while Reno has accumulated 102 kills with a .335 hitting percentage.

Lindenwood-Belleville: The Lynx bring a 5-8 record into Batesville this weekend. LUB lost their first conference match of the season on Tuesday as No. 12 Columbia College swept the Lynx (25-9, 25-11, 25-12). The Lynx have caused problems at the net for their opponents as they are second in the AMC with 2.2 blocks per set. Offensively, everything runs through Shelbey Saye as she has accounted for 313 of her team's 357 assists on the season. Diana Shamroski and Briana Webb pace LUB in the kills department as they have totaled 99 and 93 kills, respectively.

Lyon College:  The Scots are 8-5 during the 2019 campaign. Lyon is the AMC leader in hitting percentage (.224) and ranks second in aces per set (2.3). Michayla Shanks has tallied a team-high 103 kills and 22 aces. Kendra Kelley, Alley Edwards, and Gracen Ratliff are also close to eclipsing the 100-kill plateau as they have registered 92, 83, and 78 kills, respectively. Kaitlyn Jackson (198 assists) and Ellie Embry (155 assists) have combined for 353 assists through the first 13 matches. Defensively, Destiny Nunez paces the Scots with 115 digs, while Michayla Shanks has recorded 94 on the season. Meanwhile, Maria Eleni Bampiri and Levia Taegtmeyer have racked up 20 and 18 blocks, respectively.

St. Louis College of Pharmacy: Lyon holds a 4-1 record all-time against the Eutectics. In their most recent meeting on Oct. 27, 2018, Lyon fell to STLCOP in five sets (23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 19-25, 13-15).
 
Lindenwood-Belleville: Lyon is 1-4 all-time against the Lynx. In their most recent meeting on Oct. 26, 2018, Lyon lost to LUB in four sets (25-18, 14-25, 18-25, 18-25)

Lyon will travel to Missouri for two more conference matches on Sept. 27-28. The Scots will square off against William Woods University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, Lyon will battle No. 3 Park University at 1:00 p.m.
