CANTON, Mo. – The Lyon College men's soccer team defeated Culver-Stockton College, 2-1, on the last day of the Culver-Stockton Tournament. The Scots scored two goals off perfectly executed corner kicks, while the Wildcats scored a late penalty kick goal.
Lyon is now 3-2 overall, while Culver-Stockton College falls to 1-3 on the year.
GAME FLOW
The match remained scoreless until the 33
rd minute.
Marcos Fernandez took a corner and delivered a perfect cross to
Nathan Wilson. Wilson got on the end of the cross and headed the ball past the goalkeeper into the back of the net, giving the Scots a 1-0 lead as the halftime whistle sounded.
The Scots continued their offensive attack throughout the second half. In the 57

Marcos Fernandez crossed a corner into the box to
Nathan Wilson. Wilson found
Raimundo Cabello who struck a shot into the back of the net, extending Lyon's lead to two. The Wildcats responded with a goal of their own in the 71
st minute as Lewis Fairley took a penalty kick that found the back of the net, cutting the lead to just one. The defense of the Scots would hold strong in the final 19 minutes as the Scots would go on to defeat the Wildcats by a score of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
