BATESVILLE, Ark. – A 4-for-4 performance at the plate by Alan West and five-unanswered runs in the middle innings helped lift the 17th-ranked Lyon College baseball team to a 5-1 non-conference win against Hendrix College on Tuesday afternoon at Scots Field. Lyon moved to 31-12 with the win, while Hendrix dropped to 24-10.

Hendrix broke the scoring column first in the top of the second inning with a run before a string of three-straight one-run innings by the Scots opened up the comeback for Lyon. In the bottom of the fourth, West led things off with an infield single. With Tristan Buschow at the plate next, West found himself on third base in the middle of the at-bat. West went into motion to steal second and moved up to third as the ball trickled to the backstop. Buschow singled home West later in the at-bat to tie the game at 1-1. Another wild pitch led to another run for the Scots in the bottom of the fifth before Ryan Clack put the score at 3-1 in favor of Lyon with an RBI-groundout in the bottom of the sixth.

Dalton Ernest and Troy Strack opened up another scoring inning for the Scots in the bottom of the seventh with a walk and a bunt single. After a groundout by Kylan Barnett moved the pair up to second and third, Kyle West drove in Ernest with a sacrifice fly to left. The younger West, Alan, came up next for the Scots and drove in Strack with an RBI-single to left to extend the Scots' lead to 5-1.

Brock Beacham recorded two more outs in the top of the eighth before he gave way to Sam Murfin out of the bullpen to record the final out in the inning. Ethan Denney followed Murfin out of the bullpen and closed the door in the ninth with a pair of strikeouts to seal the victory.

Beacham earned the win on the mound and improved to 4-2 on the bump after tossing 7.2 innings. Beacham allowed one run on seven hits while striking out two.

Buschow added two hits for the Scots offensively.

The Scots will open up an eight-game road trip this weekend at Hannibal-LaGrange. Lyon and HLG will open up their three-game American Midwest Conference series with a doubleheader on Friday at noon. The series finale at HLG is set for Saturday at noon.
