BATESVILLE, Ark. – A return back home is just what the 15th-ranked Lyon College baseball team needed heading into the final week of the regular season. The Scots collected 15 total hits which led to 14 runs as
Ryan Clack belted a two-run, walk-off home run to send Lyon past College of the Ozarks by a score of 14-4.
Lyon improved to 36-16 with the win, while CofO dropped to 23-27.
The Scots put up a pair of three-run innings during the first four frames of the game on Tuesday.
Kyle West gave Lyon a 3-0 lead after the first with a three-run home run to left. After the Bobcats scored two runs in the top of the second, the Scots added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth. The Scots had runners on first and second with only one out before
Jake Michener doubled down the left-field line to score a run.
Kylan Barnett drove in two runs in the next at-bat with a single up the middle and extended the Scots' lead to 6-2.
Lyon added to its lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI-double by Clack before the Bobcats trimmed the deficit to three at 7-4 with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.
The Scots put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the fifth and walked in off in the bottom of the eighth on the two-run home run by Clack.
Clack and
Zane Pritchard collected three hits in the game for the Scots, while Michener, West and
Troy Strack added two hits each.
Tanner Johnson improved to 5-2 on the mound as he earned the win. Johnson allowed four runs on six hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. Jordan Oliver and
Michael Jorgensen added an inning of scoreless relief each.
The Scots will prepare for their final home games of the regular season this weekend in a pivotal American Midwest Conference series against Columbia College. The Scots and Cougars will open up their series on Friday with a doubleheader beginning at noon. The series finale will take place on Saturday at noon. Prior to Saturday's game, the Scots will host a Senior Day recognition to honor the program's five seniors. The Scots will also host a ring ceremony to honor the 2018 AMC Regular-Season Championship team after the conclusion of the game on Saturday.
