SAUGET, Ill. – The 18th-ranked Lyon College baseball team and Lindenwood-Belleville opened up a three-game series with a doubleheader split on Friday afternoon at GCS Ballpark. LUB took game one, 2-1 before the Scots bounced back to take game two, 6-3. Lyon moved to 26-11 (11-5 American Midwest Conference), while LUB stands at 16-16 (10-7 AMC).
The two teams will wrap up the series on Saturday afternoon with a single nine-inning game with the start time to be determined due to inclement weather in the forecast.
Game One: LUB 2, #18 Lyon 1
Lyon and Lindenwood-Belleville were held scoreless until the fifth inning when all of the runs in the series opener were scored. Lyon got on the board after a lead-off single by Ryan Clack opened up the fifth frame before he came around to score on an RBI-double by Tanner Seibel. LUB tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI-double by Andre Roberts before the Lynx grabbed the lead later in the inning on an error by the Scots.
Marcelo Terrazas suffered the tough loss as he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out five over six innings pitched.
Five Scots all recorded one hit each in the game.
Game Two: #18 Lyon 6, LUB 3
LUB jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second before the Scots responded with four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Three-straight singles by Seibel, Dalton Ernest and Jake Michener opened up the frame before Troy Strack added another single to plate Sebel. A pair of errors by the LUB defense allowed three more runs to cross the plate in the inning as Lyon took a 4-3 advantage.
The Scots added to their lead with a run in the top of the eighth and one more in the top of the ninth. Cameron Hockle drove in a run in the eighth with an RBI-single as Seibel brought home a run in the ninth with an RBI-single of his own.
The three-run cushion was more than enough for the Scots as Ethan Denney came on in the ninth and earned his fifth save of the season.
Sam Murfin earned the win on the mound as he got both batters out that he faced ending the fifth inning. Jordan Olivera followed with three scoreless innings of relief before giving way to Denney.
Michener and Seibel collected two hits each in the game for the Scots.
