LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The 18th-ranked Lyon College baseball team trailed, 6-5, heading into the top of the ninth, but the Scots put up eight runs in the final frame and earned a 13-6 win over No. 7 Georgia Gwinnett in the series opener between the two teams on Friday afternoon. Lyon improved to 23-8 with the win, while GGC dropped to 21-8.

Georgia Gwinnett took an early 2-0 lead over the Scots with two runs in the bottom of the first before the Scots cut the deficit in half with a run in the top of the third on an RBI-single by Kyle West.

GGC extended its lead to 6-1 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the bottom of the sixth before the Scots began to chip away in the top of the eighth inning. Alan West started the inning with a lead-off, solo home run before the Scots had two runners on after a GGC error and a double by Zane Pritchard. Another error by the Grizzlies led to another run for the Scots before a two-run single by Troy Strack pulled the Scots within one at 6-5.

The Scots rallied all the way back and overtook the lead in the top of the ninth thanks to eight runs on four hits in the frame. Ethan Denney came on in relief for the Scots in the bottom of the ninth to close out the game as Lyon took game one, 13-6.

Strack and Alan West recorded three hits each in the game, while Tristan Buschow and Pritchard collected two hits each.

Morry Watson earned the win on the mound as he tossed two innings of scoreless relief.

The two teams will continue their series on Saturday with another single nine-inning game. First pitch of game two is set for noon (CDT).
