Game One: Rio Grande 3, Lyon 0
The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, the University of Rio Grande's Taylor Webb led off the inning with a single. Webb would later come around to score on an error. With one out in the frame, Lexi Philen delivered an RBI single, giving the Red Storm a 2-0 lead after five.
Rio Grande tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Kelsey Conkey began the frame with a double. Webb would later bring her in to score on an RBI groundout, giving the Red Storm a 3-0 lead heading into the seventh inning.
The Scots attempted to get a rally going in the seventh, but were unsuccessful this time around and fell to the Red Storm by a score of 3-0.
Katelyn Platt led the Scots in the circle. Platt threw all six innings, while striking out five and allowing two earned runs. Offensively, Riley Shaw and Breanna Langford accounted for the Scots only two hits of the game.
Game Two: Lyon 4, College of Coastal Georgia 2
The Scots opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as Mikayla Mullen led off the inning with a hit by pitch. Mullen would come around to score on a Breanna Langford RBI single, giving the Scots an early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Megan Micke laced a lead-off single. Micke, then, stole second base and advanced to third on a sac bunt. Addison Harmondelivered a deep sac fly to center field to score Micke and give the Scots a 2-0 advantage.
The Scots opened the bottom of the fourth with a pair of singles from Riley Shaw and Breanna Langford. Shaw and Langford each moved up a base on a sac bunt. After a walk loaded the bases with two outs, Faith Cornmesser was hit by the pitch, bringing in Shaw from third. The Scots tacked on another run as Cheyenne Black worked a bases loaded walk to give Lyon a 4-0 advantage heading into the fifth inning.
The College of Coastal Georgia would answer back with a run in each of the next two innings, cutting Lyon's lead in half heading into the final frame.
In the seventh inning, the Mariners put runners on first and second with two outs. However, Katelyn Platt was up to the task as she induced a groundout, earning the Scots a 4-2 victory Saturday night.
Faith Cornmesser earned the win for the Scots as she threw five innings, while striking out four and allowing two runs. Katelyn Platt came in to earn the 6-out save. Offensively, Megan Micke and Breanna Langford led the way for the Scots as each recorded two hits in the game.
UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
Lyon finishes play in the Gulf Shores Invitational tomorrow as the Scots face Ave Maria University at 9:00 a.m. and Thomas University at 2:00 p.m.
