Scots Crush Hornets, 21-0 & 16-0

Game One: Lyon 21, Harris-Stowe 0 (5 Innings)
The Scots wasted no time as the hosts tallied 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Megan Micke led the frame off with a single to center field and later scored on a wild pitch. Addison Harmon, then, singled to center and stole second. Cheyenne Black delivered an RBI double to right center, giving the Scots a 2-0 lead. Following a Breanna Langford walk, Riley Shaw legged out an infield single, which allowed two Scots to scamper home on the throwing error by the Hornets. Next, Cheyenne Herrera tagged an RBI double, plating Shaw. After Siobhan Taylor reached on an error, Kendra Kelley blasted a double to right center, giving Lyon a six run lead. Another Hornet error allowed Taylor to score from third. Next, Faith Cornmesser laced a 2 RBI single to left field, scoring Kelley and Micke. Addison Harmon would keep the rally going as she launched a no-doubt 2-run home run over the left field fence, giving Lyon an 11-0 lead after one.

In the second inning, the Scots opened the frame with two straight singles by Herrera and Taylor. Micke delivered a 1-out RBI single to left field, scoring Herrera. Cornmesser followed with an RBI single of her own, extending Lyon's lead to 13. Harmon connected on an RBI single, plating Micke. With two outs, Langford crushed a 2 RBI single, putting the hosts up by 16. Next, Riley Shaw struck a single, plating Langford and putting the Scots up 17-0 after two.  

In the bottom of the third, Courtney Rollans started the two-out rally with a single to left field. After a walk by Kortanie RuhlandCamryn Long placed a single to left field, giving the Scots a 18-0 lead. Skyler Burke, then, reached on a walk and Ruhland came around to score on the wild pitch. Celsey Wood kept the inning alive as she reached via error, scoring Long from third.

The Scots would add one more run in the fourth as Melanie Mooney began the inning with a single to left and would come around to score on Nadya Fernandez's sharp ground ball, giving Lyon a 21-0 lead.

Katelyn Platt mowed down the Hornets in order in each of the first four innings, and finished the game with one of her 10 strikeouts on the afternoon. Platt earned the complete game shutout, with the only Hornet hit coming with two outs in the fifth inning. This complete game victory moved Platt's record to 9-2 in the circle. Offensively, Faith CornmesserAddison Harmon, and Cheyenne Herrera led the charge for the Scots as each recorded three hits in the game.  

Game Two: Lyon 16, Harris-Stowe 0 (5 Innings)
In the bottom of the first, Faith Cornmesser reached on a walk and stole second base. Harmon, then, delivered a base knock to center, plating Cornmesser. Two Scot runners would come around to score via wild pitch, giving the home team a 3-0 lead after one.  

In the second inning, Mikayla Mullen walked to lead off the frame. After two consecutive bunt singles by Micke and Cornmesser, Harmon stepped to the plate with three ducks on the pond. Harmon crushed the first pitch she saw way over the left field fence for a no-doubt grand slam. Black, then, singled. After an Anna Beth Conditt walk, Riley Shaw laced a double to deep left center, giving the Scots an 8-0 lead. Siobhan Taylor delivered a 2-RBI double to left field, extending the lead to double digits. Mullen pushed one more run across with a sac fly, before Taylor came in to score via wild pitch, giving Lyon a 12-0 advantage heading into the third inning.

Lyon opened the third inning with two Scots reaching base via error. Harmon came around to score on the second error. Next, Conditt doubled to deep right, scoring Skyler BurkeLexie Eppes, then, reached base on an error allowing Conditt to score. Libby Shipp stepped to the plate and delivered a base knock, plating Eppes and making the score 16-0 Lyon.

The Hornets put runners on first and second with no outs in the fifth. Cornmesser, though, kept the shutout in tact as she induced two flyouts and a groundout to finish the contest. On the afternoon, Cornmesser earned the complete game shutout, while fanning seven Hornets and improving her unblemished record to 6-0 in the circle. Offensively, Addison Harmon paced the Scots as she tallied two hits, including a grand slam, five RBI's, three runs scored, and swiped two bags.

The Scots host Crowley's Ridge College with the first game of the doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12.
