Second-Half Comeback Bid Comes Up Short For Scots

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men's basketball team rallied back from a 15-point second-half deficit and had a chance to win it at the end, but a final three-point attempt at the buzzer came up just short as Harris-Stowe escaped with a 64-63 victory over the Scots on Thursday night. HSSU improved to 16-11 (11-10 American Midwest Conference) with the win, while Lyon dropped to 16-13 (10-11 AMC).

A three-pointer by Deandre Clark gave Harris-Stowe a 50-35 lead with 10:46 remaining in the game as the Scots began their comeback attempt. Blake Bradshaw opened up the rally with three straight points before a jumper by Antanas Krimelis, followed by a free throw by Ray Price and a bucket by Faris Verlasevic cut the deficit to eight just three minutes later.

Despite HSSU extending its lead back to double-digits, the Scots continued to climb back into the game. Trailing, 55-45, with 4:58 remaining, a pair of free throws by Krimelis opened up a 17-7 run for the Scots over the next four minutes as Krimelis gave the Scots a one-point lead at 63-62 lead with a three-point play. Harris-Stowe came down on its next possession and worked the ball around as the Hornets regained the lead on a basket by Nate Rigmaiden with nine seconds left to play. The Scots had a look from three to win it at the end, but the shot came up just short and gave HSSU a one-point victory.

HSSU led, 33-24, over the Scots at halftime. During halftime, The Lyon College Athletic Department recognized members of the Lyon College men's and women's soccer teams and men's and women's cross country teams on their success this past season.

Emir Sabic finished with a game-high 16 points, while Krimelis recorded a double-double as he ended the game with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The Scots will end their regular season at home on Saturday against Lindenwood-Belleville at 3 p.m. The Lyon College men's basketball team will honor its three seniors – Emir SabicEric Moses and Antanas Krimelis – prior to the start of its game on Saturday.
