CBC Controls Second Half To Get Past Scots

CONWAY, Ark. – The Lyon College men's basketball team gave Central Baptist College everything it could handle for one half on Tuesday night, but the Mustangs caught fire from the floor in the second half and earned a 74-48 victory over the Scots. CBC improved to 17-8 (10-8 American Midwest Conference) with the win, while Lyon slipped to 15-11 (9-9 AMC).

Lyon controlled to tempo of the game in the opening 10 minutes of the first half as a pair of free throws by Ray Price, followed by a three-pointer by Faris Verlasevic gave the Scots an 11-9 lead at the 15:42 mark. Price and Verlasevic helped extend the Scots lead to 16-10 two minutes later after Price hit on a jumper and Verlasevic connected on another triple. The lead grew to seven at 20-13 after a free throw by Eric Moses, but the Mustangs raced back with a 9-2 run to tie the game at 22-22 following a three-pointer by Victor Dukes. The Scots held their own with the Mustangs the rest of the half, but CBC took a 38-28 lead into the break.

The Mustangs began to heat up from the floor in the second half and shot over 53-percent from the field. CBC went on to outscore the Scots, 36-21, in the second half.

Verlasevic finished with a team-high 15 points for the Scots, while Prince nearly recorded his second consecutive double-double as he ended with 10 points and nine rebounds. Percell Washington finished with a game-high 22 points to lead CBC.

The Scots will return to action on Thursday night at William Woods. Tip-off for Thursday night's game is set for 7:30 p.m.
