HANNIBAL, Mo. – The [RV] Lyon College men's basketball team came out hot as the Scots made five of their first six shots from the field to open up the game. The Scots kept in rhythm all night offensively as Lyon shot 53.8% (21-of-39) from the field and 76.9% (10-of-13) from beyond the arc in a 66-59 win at Hannibal-LaGrange.
The Scots improved their record to 9-3 (4-1 American Midwest Conference) with the win, while HLG fell to 1-7 (0-4 AMC).
The hot shooting start by the Scots gave Lyon a 12-2 lead five minutes into the contest following a three-pointer by Grant Patterson. After a pair of three-pointers by HLG cut the deficit to four just moments later, the Scots made their next six shots from the field and extended their lead to 29-12 with 6:15 left in the half. Lyon continued to hold a double-digit lead over HLG for the remainder of the half as a free throw by Hunter Daley gave the Scots a 36-22 advantage at halftime.
HLG continued to trail by double digits until a three-pointer by Michael Hood at the 11:10 mark cut the deficit to seven at 47-40. The Scots quickly pushed their lead back up to 12 following a three-pointer by Patterson and a bucket by Ray Price before the Trojans attempted one final comeback.
HLG pulled back within three points on three separate occasions during the final minutes of the game but three free throws by Dominique Loyd and two more by Patterson held the Trojans off at the end.
Daley paced the Scots with 18 points to go along with eight rebounds as Price and Patterson chipped in 15 and 11 points, respectively. Ryan Ward and Hood led HLG with 18 points each.
The Scots will now have two weeks off before returning to action on Dec. 21 at home against William Woods for Military Appreciation Day. The Dec. 21 game is set to tip-off at 3 p.m.
