ST. LOUIS – The [RV] Lyon College men's basketball team pulled back within two points on a free throw by Dominique Loyd with just over a minute left in the game but Harris-Stowe sank eight free throws down the stretch to hold off the Scots, 70-64, on Thursday night.

Harris-Stowe improved to 5-2 (3-0 American Midwest Conference), while the Scots slipped to 7-3 (3-1 AMC).

Lyon College set the tone early and jumped out to an 18-7 lead over Harris-Stowe through the first 13 minutes of the game before the Hornets cut the deficit to single-digits late in the first half. The Hornets responded with a 9-0 run over the next three minutes as a jumper by Deshawn Munson pulled HSSU back within two at 18-16.

A three-pointer by Hunter Daley pushed the Scots lead back up to five at 21-16, but HSSU ended the half on another 9-0 run to take a 25-21 lead at the break.

Lyon rallied back to tie the score at 27-27 in the opening minutes of the first half before a three-point play by Grant Patterson gave the Scots a 30-27 lead. Harris-Stowe responded back with another big run to regain the lead over the Scots, 54-41, on a bucket by Jamarr Joseph with 6:23 remaining.

Lyon climbed its way back into the game and pulled back within two twice down the stretch, but that would be as close as the Scots would get as HSSU sealed the win from the charity stripe.

Winston Peace led the Scots with a team-high 16 points, while Hunter Daley finished with a double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds). Ray Price and Patterson chipped in 11 points each in the loss. Munson led all scorers with a game-high 26 points to go along with 13 rebounds for HSSU.

The Scots will end their brief two-game road trip on Saturday at Hannibal-LaGrange. Tip-off for Saturday's contest is set for 3 p.m.
