WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The eighth-ranked Lyon College women's wrestling team traveled to Kentucky for the Patriot Duals hosted by the University of the Cumberlands on Friday. The Scots competed in five duals against No. 10 Campbellsville University, No. 1 Life University, No. 3 University of the Cumberlands, No. 11 Missouri Valley College, and the Campbellsville University second unit.
The Scots began the day with duals against No. 10 Campbellsville University and No. 1 Life University. Lyon dropped the first match to Campbellsville University before pushing the nation's top-ranked team to the brink. Victories by
Jessienna Burkett-Erice,
Brianna Ribucan-Leong, and
Jasmine Hernandez got the Scots off to a 15-0 advantage over Life University. Life would quickly respond, though, as the No. 1 team used a 24-5 run to win the dual, 24-20.
Following a close loss against No. 3 University of the Cumberlands, 21-19, the Scots took the mat against No. 11 Missouri Valley College.
Jessienna Burkett-Erice,
Brianna Ribucan-Leong, and
Ashley Whetzal propelled the Scots to a quick 14-0 advantage as each wrestler etched a victory. Lyon would take their biggest lead of the contest, 24-5, before holding on for the 24-20 win. The Scots would conclude the day with a close loss to the Campbellsville University second unit.
UP NEXT
Lyon will have two weeks off before their next dual against No. 4 Wayland Baptist University on Dec. 7. The showdown between the two top-10 teams will commence at 8:30 a.m. inside the Pete and Nelda Laney Center in Plainview, Texas.
