Lyon Travels to Missouri for Three Road Contests

Scots square off against No. 7 Columbia College, Stephens College, and University of Saint Mary this weekend

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team travels to Columbia for three matches over a two-day span this weekend. The Scots will square off against No. 7 Columbia College on Friday at 4:00 p.m. The following day, Lyon will take the court against Stephens College at 2:00 p.m. and the University of Saint Mary at 4:00 p.m.

The Matchups
No. 7 Columbia College: The seventh-ranked Cougars sport a 24-3 record this season and an 8-1 mark in American Midwest Conference play. Columbia leads the conference in four offensive categories – hitting percentage (.255), kills per set (13.8), assists per set (13), and service aces per set (2.2). Luisa Ferreira paces the Cougars with a conference-high 1,083 assists, while Kiersten Anderson and Sidney Branson lead the Cougars in the kills department with 318 and 315 kills, respectively. Anderson has also registered a conference-best 51 service aces and team-best 58 total blocks during the 2019 campaign.

Stephens College: The Stars (4-20, 1-9 AMC) lost their most recent match to No. 7 Columbia College in straight sets on Tuesday night. Offensively, Stephens is led by McKenzi Domescik-Rink as she has totaled 257 kills on the season, while Magan Reese has recorded a team-leading 363 assists. Mollie Thompson and Maggie Howe lead SC's defense as Thompson has tallied a team-high 250 digs, and Howe has accumulated a team-best 41 total blocks.

University of Saint Mary: The Spires have put together a 24-7 record and perfect 10-0 mark in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. USM is riding a 15-match win streak after outlasting McPherson College in a five-set affair Tuesday night. Cody Offerle leads the charge for the University of Saint Mary's offense as she has registered 306 kills. The Spires use two setters – Haydan Heurmann (662 assists) and Ashley Van Gieson (443 assists) – to keep opponents off balance. Keishla Reyes and Cali Odom headline USM's defense as Reyes has etched a team-leading 464 digs on the season, and Odom has used her athleticism at the net to record a team-best 88 total blocks. 

Lyon College: The Scots are 17-13 overall and 5-4 in the American Midwest Conference after winning their previous three of four matches this season. Michayla Shanks is closing in on reaching two milestones – 1,000 digs and 200 service aces in her Lyon College career. Shanks currently sits at 994 digs and 197 service aces. Kendra Kelley has registered a double-double in each of Lyon's last three matches. Kelley has tallied 229 kills this season, while Gracen Ratliff has accumulated 211 kills on a .251 hitting percentage. Kaitlyn Jackson has accounted for a team-leading 458 assists. Defensively, Shanks leads the Scots in digs (226), while Maria Eleni Bampiri paces Lyon in total blocks (59).       
 
Series History
No. 7 Columbia College: Lyon is winless in their last eight meetings with the Cougars. In the most recent matchup on Nov. 3, 2018, Columbia defeated the Scots in straight sets (25-14, 25-10, 25-13). 

Stephens College: The Scots have won the last six times the Scots have squared off against the Stars. In the most recent matchup on Nov. 2, 2018, Lyon swept Stephens (25-15, 25-15, 25-17).   
 

University of Saint Mary: Lyon fell to the Spires in their most recent meeting last season. While the Scots battled the Spires for the entire match, USM bested Lyon in four sets on Oct. 18, 2018.

The Scots host Hannibal-LaGrange University for Senior Day on Friday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m. This will be Lyon's final regular season match inside Becknell Gymnasium this season.
