BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team returned home for a conference clash with Central Baptist College. The Lyon College volleyball team donned pink uniforms, had a silent auction, and raffled off prizes during the contest for their "Block Out Cancer" Match tonight to help raise awareness and relief efforts for breast cancer. After narrowly dropping the first set, the Scots hit their stride and defeated Central Baptist College (22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19).
Lyon improves to 16-12 on the season and 5-4 in American Midwest Conference play, while Central Baptist College dips to 12-14 overall and 2-7 in conference action.
GAME FLOW
The first set was a back-and-forth affair until the score was knotted at 22 apiece. The Mustangs, though, earned the next three points to take the first set by a score of 25-22.
Following two consecutive aces by
Michayla Shanks, the Scots jetted out to an early 11-3 lead in the second stanza. CBC would fight back, cutting Lyon's lead to just two points, 14-12. The Scots quickly responded, winning the next three rallies to extend their lead to five points, 17-12. CBC would connect for three consecutive points late in the frame to cut the Scots' advantage to just one point, 24-23. However, Lyon regained their composure and won the next point to take the second set, 25-23, and even the score at one game apiece.
Both teams exchanged leads early in the third stanza. With the score knotted at 14-14 midway through the third frame, the Scots used a 7-1 run to break the game wide open. Three kills from
Kendra Kelley, two from
Levia Taegtmeyer, one from
Maggee Hobson, and a Mustang service error gave the home team a 21-15 lead. The Scots would claim the third set on blocks by
Michayla Shanks and
Maria Eleni Bampiri, 25-20.
The Scots held a narrow 10-9 advantage in the early stages of the fourth set. Lyon would use a 5-1 run to push their lead to 15-10. CBC, though, fought back as the visitors trimmed Lyon's advantage to just one point, 20-19. However, Lyon answered with five unanswered points to win the fourth set, 25-19, and match, 3-1.
KEY STATISTICS

Kendra Kelley was all over the court tonight as she recorded a double-double with 13 kills and a team-high 22 digs.

Michayla Shanks also notched a double-double as she tallied 16 kills and 10 digs in the contest. Shanks registered two aces tonight, which puts her only six aces away from 200 for her career.

Kaitlyn Jackson tallied a team-best 31 assists in the contest, while
Gracen Ratliff etched 13 kills.
- The Scots dominated the Mustangs in kills, 62-41 and assists, 59-39.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
Lyon returns to the court tomorrow morning as the Scots will battle Philander Smith College in a non-conference contest. First serve is set for 10:00 a.m. inside Becknell Gymnasium.
