Football Heads to SAGU Saturday

The Lyon College football team will travel to SAGU on Saturday

BATESVILLE, Ark. – After going 1-1 in a two-game home stand, the Lyon College football team will play on the road this Saturday as the Scots take on Southwestern Assemblies of God in a Sooner Athletic Conference matchup at 2 p.m. in Waxahachie, Texas.

The all-time series between Lyon and SAGU is tied at 2-2 after the Scots earned a 37-34 victory last season at Pioneer Stadium on Oct. 13.

SCOUTING THE SCOTS

As a whole, the Scots have had their best start to a season in the modern-era as Lyon enters this weekend's contest at SAGU with a record of 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the SAC.

Multiple players rank in the top 10 in the NAIA for individual statistics. Sophomore punter/kicker Ignacio Gomez leads the NAIA in total field goals (9) and field goals per game (1.8). Gomez also ranks sixth in total scoring for kickers (38) and total scoring per game for kickers (7.6). Cornelius Williams, who has been a shutdown corner for the Scots, ranks third in the NAIA in passes defended per game (2.3). Orreon Finley has been a playmaker on offense and special teams for the Scots as he ranks fifth in all-purpose yards per game (171.5) and seventh in total kickoff return yards (302). Randy Satterfield ranks eighth in the NAIA in total all-purpose yards (744).

SCOUTING THE LIONS

SAGU enters this weekend's contest at 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the SAC after dropping a triple overtime thriller at Texas Wesleyan by a score of 52-44 last weekend.

Landon Moon is in line to get the start at quarterback for the Lions on Saturday. Entering this weekend, Moon has completed 32-of-72 passes for 437 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. The top receiver for SAGU is Bryant Dotson, who leads the team with 22 receptions for 345 yards and three scores. On the ground, Michael Bledsoe has ran the ball a team-high 77 times for 264 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, SAGU has a two players that have caused havoc for opposing teams on the defensive line. Jordaan Coleman and Drake Rodriguez enter the weekend as the top two players in sacks and tackles-for-loss for the Lions. Coleman leads the team in both categories with 6.5 tackles-for-loss and 4.5 sacks, while Rodriguez has recorded 5.5 tackles-for-loss and 3.5 sacks.

UP NEXT

Following Saturday's game at SAGU, the Scots will go on their second bye week of the season before returning home on Oct. 26 to host Wayland Baptist at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
