BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team welcomes two conference opponents to Batesville on Oct. 11-12. On Friday, the Scots will square off against Harris-Stowe State University with first serve set for 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, Lyon will battle No. 1 Missouri Baptist University. The match between the Scots and Spartans will begin at 1:00 p.m.
The Matchups
Harris-Stowe State University: The Hornets are 1-14 on the season and are currently on a 13 match losing streak. HSSU uses a trio of hitters – Niya Jenkins (74 kills), Tiffany Hopkins (74 kills), and Jada Brooks (69 kills) – to keep defenses on their toes, while Junoria Worthy holds the team lead in assists with 112 on the season. Worthy also paces the Hornets on the defensive end as she has recorded a team-best 177 digs.
No. 1 Missouri Baptist University: The top-ranked Spartans (18-4, 4-1 AMC) fell to No. 6 Park University in their most recent match. Morgan Berry is second in the AMC for assists, tallying 702 assists this season. Berry sets to several different hitters as MBU has five players who have totaled at least 125 kills through their first 22 matches. Giovanna Tapigliani leads the group, tallying a team-high 178 kills. Defensively, Ariana Macies paces the Spartans with 361 digs during the 2019 campaign. Meanwhile, Caterina Cigarini has used her 6'4" frame at the net to register 53 blocks.
Lyon College: The Scots sport a 12-9 overall record this season and a 3-3 mark in the AMC. Maggee Hobson has been electric from the service line this year as she is third in the conference with a team-leading 28 aces. Michayla Shanks (170 kills), Gracen Ratliff (140 kills), Kendra Kelley (136 kills), and Alley Edwards (124 kills) lead Lyon in the kills department, while Kaitlyn Jackson and Ellie Embry have combined to tally 586 assists. Defensively, Maria Eleni Bampiri has accumulated a team-high 43 blocks on the year.

Harris-Stowe State University: Lyon has come out victorious in the last six matches against the Hornets. In the most recent matchup on Sept. 15, 2018, the Scots defeated HSSU in four sets (22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-13).
No. 1 Missouri Baptist University: The Scots are winless in the last seven matches against the Spartans. In the most recent matchup on Sept. 14, 2018, MBU bested Lyon in three sets (25-16, 25-14, 25-17).

The Scots will host a tri-match inside Becknell Gymnasium on Oct. 14, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Lyon will take on Tougaloo College in the first match of the day at 3:00 p.m. Then, the Scots will conclude the tri-match with a 7:00 p.m. contest against NCAA Division II University of Arkansas at Monticello.
