BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men's basketball team came up just short in the American Midwest Conference's Game of the Week as the Scots fell at home to Park, 56-50, on Thursday night. Park improved to 11-8 (9-4 AMC) with the win, while Lyon dropped to 12-8 (7-6 AMC).
Park erased a 5-4 deficit in the opening minutes of the game and took a 20-10 lead over the Scots with 10:59 remaining in the first half after a free throw by Ernest Myles III. After a bucket each by Blake Bradshaw and Antanas Krimelis, Lyon climbed back to tie the game at 22-22 after a jumper in the paint by Chave Zackery. Park ended the big run by the Scots with a bucket by Yansius Gonzalez before Faris Verlasevic gave the Scots a 25-24 lead at the half with three straight points.
Lyon came out of the locker room hot to open up the second half as Emir Sabic connected on a pair of threes around a tough jumper by Ray Price to extend the Scots' lead to 33-24. It was Park's turn to climb back from a large deficit as the Pirates went on a 15-6 run over the next eight minutes to overtake the lead at 39-37. The two teams kept things close down the stretch as neither side led by more than five until a pair of free throws by Josh Rutland gave Park a six-point win in the end.
Sabic led the Scots with 13 points, while Eric Moses recorded a double-double as he finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Rutland paced the Pirates with a game-high 14 points.
The Scots will return to action on Monday night when they host Ecclesia College for their final non-conference game of the season at 7 p.m.
