BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Hannibal-LaGrange group on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans shot 54-percent from the field and limited the Scots to just 37-percent from the floor as HLG defeated Lyon, 78-65, in American Midwest Conference play. Lyon fell to 11-7 (6-5 AMC) after the loss, while HLG improved to 9-8 (7-5 AMC).
The Trojans broke a 5-5 tie with a 16-4 run midway through the first half to take a 21-9 lead over the Scots. After a three-point play by Antanas Krimelis cut the deficit to single-digits, the Scots began to work their way back into the game. Blake Bradshaw followed with four straight points ahead of a three-pointer by Emir Sabic and a pair of free throws by Krimelis to pull the Scots back within two at 23-21 with 2:40 left in the half. The Trojans responded with a 6-0 run before the Scots added two more points late on a pair of free throws by Ray Price just before the end of the half.
The Scots continued to keep things close, going shot-for-shot with the Trojans to open up the second half. After a three-pointer by Price at the 11:30 mark brought the score to 45-43 in favor of the Trojans, HLG began to pull away from the Scots. The Trojans pushed their lead back up to double-digits before the Scots pulled back within six on a jumper by Eric Moses with 3:08 left to play. HLG ended the game converting 11 of its final 12 free throws to hold off the Scots in the end.
Bradshaw led the Scots with 17 points, followed by Price (16), Krimelis (12) and Moses (11). Brady Smith ended with a game-high 20 points to lead HLG.
The Scots will return to action with a conference road game at Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
