After Steven Weatherall won by forfeit in the 125-pound weight class, it was now up to Omar Gasmann in the 141-pound weight class. In what was a very hard fought match, Latrell Lewis of Calumet College of St. Joseph eventually prevailed, defeating Gasmann and knotting the score at 6.
The Scots, then, earned 18 points as Carlos Cuevas, Roger Gasmann, and Derrick Top all won by forfeits in their respective weight classes.
Next up for the Scots was Raul Gonzalez Jr. Gonzalez competed against Victor Lizardi of Calumet College of St. Joseph. Gonzalez made quick work of Lizardi as he pinned him at the 1:56 mark, earning the Scots six more points.
Lyon's Reuben Vedia and John Bentley each won by forfeit, giving the Scots a 42-6 lead, heading into the final match of the dual.
In the 285-pound weight class, Noah Wilson faced off against Calumet College of St. Joseph's Nick Fowler. Wilson battled hard, but it was ultimately not enough as Fowler defeated Wilson, earning the Crimson Wave 6 points. These 6 points would not be enough to change the outcome of the dual as Lyon went on to defeat Calumet College of St. Joseph by a score of 42-12.
COACH'S CORNER
"The kids have given great effort since we got back on campus, and it showed as we wrestled hard today. It might not have been the smartest wrestling wise, but we can fix those mistakes since the effort is there.
This was the first competition our kids have had in over three weeks, and it showed in some situations. Overall, however, I was happy with our effort. We have a big week ahead of us as we start school on Tuesday, and then travel to arguably the toughest tournament we will wrestle in all year in the Missouri Valley Invite."- Coach Tom Erikson
