ST. LOUIS – Emir Sabic finished one point shy of tying his season-high as the senior scored a game-high 25 points to help the Lyon College men's basketball team open up a two-game American Midwest Conference road trip with a 71-56 win at Harris-Stowe on Thursday night. Lyon picked up its second win in a row and improved to 10-6 (5-4 AMC), while HSSU dropped to 7-6 (3-5 AMC).
Harris-Stowe commanded the first part of the opening half, but it was all Lyon in the second 10 minutes. After a jumper by Corey Wells Jr. gave the Hornets an 18-10 lead, Lyon began to rally back and opened up the comeback with a bucket by Blake Bradshaw. Eric Moses and Antanas Krimelis accounted for the next 11 points for the Scots before Sabic got in on the action with a pair of free throws and gave Lyon a 28-23 lead with 4:18 left in the half. Lyon extended its lead to 11 late in the half on one of Sabic's seven three-pointers, but HSSU answered with a three of its own to cut the deficit to eight at 39-31.
Lyon opened up the second half with a 6-2 after getting a basket each by Moses, Sabic and Ray Price to push its lead to double-digits. Harris-Stowe managed to trim the deficit to 59-51 with 5:53 left to play, but a three by Sabic opened up a 9-0 run for the Scots as the lead grew back to double-digits. The Scots took their largest lead of the game at 72-53 on a jumper by Moses with just under a minute to play as Lyon cruised the rest of the way.
Moses just missed recording another double-double on the season as he finished with 17 points and nine rebounds. Bear Clarkson led the Hornets with a team-high 13 points.
The Scots will end their brief two-game road trip on Saturday at Lindenwood-Belleville at 3 p.m.
