OUAZ Tops Lyon In First-Ever Meeting

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Ottawa-Arizona jumped out to an early lead against the Lyon College football team and held that advantage the rest of the game as the Spirit defeated the Scots, 51-11, in the first-ever meeting between the two programs on Saturday night at Spirit Field.

Lyon dropped to 1-3 (0-2 SAC) following the loss, while OUAZ improved to 2-2 (1-2 SAC).

Game Flow
OUAZ jumped out to a 37-0 lead over the Scots until Ignacio Gomez drilled a 19-yard field goal just as time expired in the first half to cut the deficit to 37-3. After a pair of scores by the Spirit, Lyon gained some momentum in its final drive of the game. Headlined by the ground game from Titus Nelson and Joe Mahe, the Scots worked their way down the field. The Scots capped off the drive on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Josh Sierra to Josh Abel. Lyon was successful on the 2-point conversion attempt as Sierra found Emetrious Scott in the corner of the end zone.

  • Nelson led the Scots in rushing as he picked up 86 yards on the ground on 23 attempts.
  • Sierra finished 6-of-14 passing for 71 yards and the one touchdown.
  • Peter Tuipulotu led the Scots defensively with six total tackles.
  • OUAZ quarterback Austin McCullough finished the game 19-of-34 passing for 373 yards and four touchdowns.

The Lyon College football team will return to Pioneer Stadium on Sept. 29 for Homecoming. Kickoff on the 29th is scheduled for 5 p.m.
