BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men's basketball team made a statement in their final home game of the 2018 calendar year as the Scots set a season-high for points and defeated Crowley's Ridge College, 90-51, on Thursday night. The two teams will face off again on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Paragould, Ark., to finish up their home-and-home series.
Lyon moved to 7-4 with the win, while CRC dropped to 3-11 on the season.
Lyon and Crowley's Ridge traded leads to open up the game until a three-pointer by Emir Sabic with 12:57 left in the first half broke an 11-11 tie and gave the Scots all of the momentum. After a pair of free throws by Antanas Krimelis, Faris Verlasevic capped a 21-2 run for the Scots with a three-point play as Lyon grabbed its largest lead in the half at 32-13. The Pioneers went on to score three quick points of their own, but Ray Price answered with a three from the wing to push the Scots' lead back up to 19. CRC would get one final free throw from Randy Stanley to trim the deficit to 35-17 just before the end of the half.
Eric Moses got the Scots rolling in the second half with six straight points before Blake Bradshaw opened up another big run for the Scots with a bucket. Sabic, Price and Zalek Sharp all got in on the scoring action and pushed the Scots' lead to over 30 points midway through the second half. CRC managed to cut trim the Scots' lead to 25 points, but a three by Eric Koludrovic with just over a minute left in the game gave Lyon the 39-point victory.
Verlasevic led all scorers as he set a new career-high with 20 points, while Prince recorded a career-high of his own with 18. Sabic and Moses also finished in double-digits scoring with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Braeden Williams led the Pioneers with 15 points.
