GAME FLOW
The first half saw the defenses of both teams excel. The Scots recorded five shots, while the Lions totaled two in the first half. Each team had chances, but both defenses stayed organized and the match remained scoreless as the halftime whistle sounded.
In the second half, both teams amped up their respective offensive attacks. In the 51st minute, FHU's Sam Clymer took a shot that beat the goalkeeper into the back of the net. This gave the Lions a 1-0 advantage. The Lions would hold onto this advantage for the majority of the second half. Just when it looked like it might not be Lyon's night, Joyce Barbosa broke free in the 89th minute and took a shot that beat the goalie, knotting the match at one. The score would remain tied after 90 minutes of action.
In the first overtime, each team attempted to push forward searching for the golden goal, but were unsuccessful.
In the second overtime, it was Lyon's Joyce Barbosa who broke the scoreless tie with a shot into the back of the net, earning the Scots a 2-1 victory and Barbosa the golden goal Thursday night.
