A former All-American, a 19-year wrestling coach and mentor of 11 state champions, along with 26 high school and college All-Americans, Kevin Carter was named the first men and women's wrestling coach at Lyon College in 2014.

Carter has spent 15 of his 19 years of coaching as a head coach and holds a career dual coaching record of 279-85 (84%).

A former high school State Champion, Carter was a four-year starter at Sierra College and Southern Oregon University, earning All-American status while competing there.

In 2001, he became the head coach of the University of Nevada at Reno’s wrestling team. Carter’s teams placed second in the nation and won the 2003 NCWA College National Championships during his tenure there. During his two years at UNR, he was voted WAC Coach of the Year twice and also the NCWA National Wrestling Coach of the Year in 2002.

Carter then spent five years coaching the Damonte Ranch Mustangs in Reno, Nevada. His teams had four Top 5 finishes at the Nevada State Tournament, including a second-place finish in 2008. During this stint, Carter was named the National High School Coaches Association State Coach of the Year in 2008.

In addition, Carter served as either the head or assistant Team Nevada Coach for seven years, taking teams to the Cadet and Junior USA Nationals in Fargo.

Carter also took United States all-star teams overseas for People to People Athletics. His tours include time in Australia, New Zealand, China, and Europe. Carter also served as People to People’s Overseas Athletic Director in Amsterdam and Vienna for three years.

Coach Carter has coached 11 state champions, two USA National Cadet Champions, one University USA National Champion, four collegiate National Champions, eight California junior college state finalists, 24 high school state placers, and 26 combined college and high school All-Americans.

Carter holds a BA in History, and a MA in Educational Leadership & Administration. In addition, Carter has 15 years of teaching experience in public school districts across the United States.
