Beau Billings

Beau Billings was hired as the assistant track & field and cross country coach at Lyon in Jan. 2021.

Billings is in his second year as the men’s and women’s assistant cross-country and track and field coach. His first season was compromised of both sports competing simultaneously due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the 2020 cross country season that occurred in the spring of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Billings helped coach freshman Clare Wilber, who qualified for the NAIA Cross Country Championship as she became the first Scot to compete in the event since 1994. Wilber was also named as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual.

During the 2020 track and field season, Billings helped coach eight track athletes who earned All-AMC honors during the 2021 track season. Weston Klein (javelin), Clare Wilber (3K steeplechase) and Payne Moser (pole vault) all earned second-team honors, while Dakota Braswell (100-meter dash) and Jackson Beck, Braswell, Eric Young and Marlon Durand (4x100-meter relay) earned third-team honors.

Billings served as a personal trainer at Texas FITT in Arlington this past year. At Texas FITT, he performed physical fitness assessments on clients to determine strengths and areas of improvement. He also identified the client's needs to better develop their individualized workout program.

Billings earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from East Texas Baptist University in Marshall. During his time at ETBU, Billings was a graduate assistant of the Kinesiology/Biology Department. During his graduate assistantship, he worked with troubleshooting VO2Max testing equipment with EKG monitor by parvo medics. He also implemented the use of Heart Tech Plus software and hardware.

In the spring of 2019, Billings interned at Marshall High School as a Long-Distance Coach. At Marshall, he designed endurance-based training programs, advancing athlete performance. He also developed and implemented long-distance running plans to bolster the high school program.

Billings competed on the track & field and cross country teams during his time at ETBU. During his senior year, he made All-ASC First-Team for cross country. Billings was also an All-Academic Team award winner. Billings earned several other accolades during his competitive career at ETBU including, President's Christian Scholar Athlete, Sportsmanship Award, Men's Cross Country Toughest Tiger, Houge Presidential Leadership Award and the Scholar Athlete Medal of Honor. Billings was also the Cross Country Team Captain.

Some of his personal best times include 4:11.03 in the 1500-meter and 1:59 in the 800-meter. He also ran a time of 27:59.8 in the 8K for cross country.
