LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The tenth-ranked Lyon College women's wrestling team traveled to Kentucky for the first day of the NWCA National Duals this evening. The Scots put together a strong showing today as Lyon collected two victories against No. 12 Midland University and No. 14 Missouri Valley College.
Lyon began their day with a matchup against No. 12 Midland University. Ashley Whetzal got the Scots on the board quickly, pinning her opponent in just 64 seconds. Jasmine Hernandez followed her teammate with a 10-0 tech fall victory to widen Lyon's lead. Elissa Douglass and Kelani Corbett sealed the win for the Scots as each wrestler recorded victories via pins in 94 seconds and 56 seconds, respectively, to defeat No. 12 Midland University, 29-19.
Lyon's victory over Midland set up a matchup with No. 2 Campbellsville University. The Scots battled hard in this match, but Campbellsville got the better of Lyon tonight.
Following the loss to No. 2 Campbellsville University, the Scots regained their form against No. 14 Missouri Valley College. The Scots stormed out to an early lead following Emma De Brum besting her opponent, 12-2, and Ashley Whetzal pinning Missouri Valley College's Addie Mejia. Elissa Douglass and Kelani Corbett kept things rolling for the Scots as they pinned their opponents in 68 seconds and 54 seconds, respectively. These two critical pins secured the win for Lyon over Missouri Valley College, 30-14.

Lyon will compete in the final day of the NWAC National Duals tomorrow as the Scots square off against No. 6 Wayland Baptist University at 9:00 a.m.
